Flavorful, friendly and fun describes the Big Bend Brewery Company (BBBC)located in Alpine, Texas. Oasis also comes to mind as well. We arrived there on Tuesday, April 29 expecting to have lunch and try one of their beers. What we found was better! A small craft brewery in the middle of nowhere! Perfection after a long windy and cold ride.
We were disappointed that they were out of the La Frontera Lager and since all the other beers were remarkable, I'm confident that the lager is too. Our favorite was the Number 22 Porter - creamy, malty, chocolate and simply good. The hefewiezen had a citrus and banana flavor - interesting! The IPA and the Ale were refreshing and excellent.
After our samples and tour we spent time with Melissa and Mahala who work in the office and are super nice. Melissa was kind enough to take our photo out front.
We loved our visit and also their beer. Instead of opening our own brewery, we're thinking we should just move to Alpine, Texas and work at the BBBC!
BBBC is a small craft brewery that opened in 2012, had one full year of brewing beer and are expanding this year. The back of the Brewery was under construction and they are going from producing a few hundred barrel to several thousands. They handle all their own distribution and everyone seemed really happy to be working there. The brewer's name was Steve and he has been brewing beer for a very long time and graduated from Chicago's brew school.
BBBC offers free daily tours from 2:00-4:00 pm and for now, the tours are on demand. The General Manager, Richard Fallon toured us through his pride and joy. We toured the entire operation including the canning line, mash production and fermentation. They also toured us through the expansion as well. We spent a solid hour visiting with Richard and his team. They are all passionate and committed to brewing the best beer and they are doing it!
We sampled the Frontera IPA, Terlingua Gold Ale, Big Bend Hefeweizen, Number 22 Porter all delicious!
