Enzo!

On Monday, June 9, we picked up our fur-baby Enzo! After being gone for over 6 weeks, we were so excited to see him. The hardest part of our road trip was leaving him behind. Enzo, like most dogs, is very smart and he knew something was up as soon as we started packing our T-bags and bikes. I did explain to him what was happening, where he was going, and even though he thinks he's a person, he really didn't understand. I swear he barked at me to go buy a sidecar! I cried the day we dropped him off at Mom's house.

In contrast, picking him up was fun! We went to the front door, rang the bell and just like a good guard dog he went nuts, barking and growling. As soon as, Mom opened the door, and he realized who we were, Enzo went crazy with excitement.

It was good to see him! He was running around in circles and yipping. He couldn't get to either of us fast enough and couldn't decide who to go to first. He wanted hugs and immediately jumped up in Randy's arms. Enzo was ready to go home he ran right to our truck and jumped in, his face said "let's go home"!  As the chief photographer, I couldn't take photos and give hugs. I finally was successful; check out our smiles!

My mom, Peggy, took care of him the entire time and we are so grateful that she did. We knew he was in good hands and we knew that Enzo would be good for her too.

Together they created a bond of friendship and came to love each other. Mom doesn't have a fenced yard, so she had to walk him every couple of hours. They had a specific daily routine that started at 6:00 am and wrapped up around 10:00 pm. The walks were great for Enzo because we don't take him out as much as we should and they were good for Mom, because she doesn't walk as much as she should. They hung out together when Mom was at her computer playing games and on Facebook. At night, Enzo slept at the foot of her bed and eventually crept his way onto the bed so he could lay right next to her.

Like all good grandma's, she bribed him with treats and he quickly learned that she was the best grandma in the world. I expected him to have gained a little weight but he didn't.

We had lunch and spent the afternoon at Mom's. It was cute to see her take him out for his walks. We also laughed at Enzo, because he couldn't decide who to sit next to or who to guard. He bounced back between all three of us but it was clear that he loves my Mom.

He followed her all around the house, hung out in the kitchen and wanted to play ball with her. He loves miniature tennis balls and she made sure he had plenty. Part of their routine was lots of ball tossing and fetching.

I'm sure with us being gone for so long, he was confused and unsure about his surroundings. However, Mom talked to him all the time, rarely left him alone and made sure he was well cared for and loved.

We also learned that she took him out for rides in her car, just so he could hang his head out the window and enjoy the wind. How sweet is that? I would have liked to see Peggy and Enzo cruising the boulevard in her navy blue Jetta! My mom is pretty cool!

We know that Enzo is happy to be home, but I'm positive he's wondering about his wonderful grandma and misses her. I'll need to start dropping off Enzo for Grandma's Doggie Day Care. I'm confident they will both like that!
